Senior Housing & Green Technology
For nearly a decade Hudson Companies has been successfully developing affordable Senior Housing in Pennsylvania. To date we have put 14 new Senior Living Communities on the map, which include nearly 400 individual units.
In 2009, in an effort to improve our existing service, we began researching the methodology, benefits and potential to incorporate “green technology” into this branch of our business. LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) standards for new construction in the areas of Sustainable Sites; Water Efficiency; Energy & Atmosphere; Materials & Resources; Indoor Environmental Quality and finally Innovation & Design were all thoroughly examined. Working with our Sponsor Agency, we achieved LEED Silver Certification from the USGBC at the North East Manor in Erie County, which was the first ever LEED Silver HUD Section 202 building in the nation. Topping those efforts, the Hempfield South Apartments located in Hempfield Township, Mercer Co., PA was the first ever HUD 202 to receive a LEED Gold certification in the nation.
As a result of these accomplishments, Hudson Companies was one of only 12 companies invited to Washington, DC by the US Environmental Protection Agency and HUD to participate in a roundtable symposium to shape future policies that will increase energy efficiency and green building designs at the affordable housing level across the US.
